On the verge of its direct listing on the New York Stock Exchange, Spotify saw a new era of exponential growth and transparency and turned to SJR to revolutionize its newsroom. Working closely with the Spotify Communications team, we created For the Record — a storytelling hub that’s now a touchstone for the industry.

This editorial newsroom is the ecosystem where fans, journalists, and creators go to find the latest across the world of audio. Through deep-dives into culture and global listening trends; company announcements; news on product partnerships; and creator Q&A’s; For the Record is the place where Spotify pulls back the curtain to tell their own story. Our creative initiatives fuel earned media as well as internal communications, stakeholder management, and consumer engagement.

The site has grown significantly since launch and in addition to any rapid response announcements, there’s now a daily publishing cadence of updates in the form of articles, infographics, videos, and media kits. For larger campaigns or events (like the company’s iconic year-end Wrapped) FTR also hosts unique, curated landing pages that act as a one-stop news destination.

For the Record is a storytelling ecosystem that acts as both a destination and jumping off point for visitors.

In 2021, SJR designed and developed a refresh of For the Record with a new hub model in mind. ​Using a content feed that pulls from other Spotify community sites, we created a connected storytelling ecosystem for the company and its varied audiences.

In 2021, the new site hit record growth and engagement levels. Spotify and SJR’s work has been recognized as best in class. For the Record was nominated as a finalist for the Digiday’s 2022 Content Marketing Awards for Best B2C Branded Content Site.
